Programs encompass about 15,000 different clubs, which involve adults, university students, high school students and younger kids.
Kiwanis International is a worldwide service
organization whose membership work to improve their communities.
Kiwanis Clubs sponsor the other clubs in the Kiwanis family through
advice, manpower and financial support. Kiwanis started in Detroit,
Michigan in 1915 and now has clubs in over 80 countries. The defining
statement for Kiwanis is – Kiwanis is a global organization of
volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community
at a time.
Circle K is the largest student run service
organization in the world. Clubs are found on university and college
campuses in 15 countries. Sponsored by Kiwanis, Circle K clubs work to
improve the communities in which they live and in the world around
them. The members chose the projects they wish to undertake from
hands-on service projects to fundraising – the choice is limitless.
Key Club is the high school version of Circle K and is
also sponsored by Kiwanis. Like Circle K, Key Club is the largest
student run service organization in the world at the high school level.
Key Club boasts a world wide membership of over 240,000 students.
Builders Club is also a service club for students in junior high and middle school. Builders Club is also sponsored by Kiwanis.
K-Kids is another Kiwanis sponsored program for
elementary school children. Membership in these clubs provides these
children with the opportunity to develop self-esteem, leadership skills
and respect while doing service work for others.
Aktion Club is the newest of the sponsored clubs to
Kiwanis. The membership of these clubs is comprised of adults with
disabilities. This club provides the members with an opportunity to
provide service to their community.
